Rain Through the Canopy

Washington Square, Savannah, GA

 Field Study No. 2

Location

Savannah, Georgia — Washington Square

 Season

Winter Rain

Observed By

Suellen - Charlie

What We Noticed

Rain moved through the canopy in slow layers.

The Spanish moss held the water for a moment,
then released it in small drops through the air.

Above us, the oak branches carried the weather differently than the street below.

The square felt softened.

Quieter.

As though the rain had given the whole place a different voice.

Field Notes

In a mature tree canopy, rain does not fall all at once.

Leaves, branches, and hanging air plants slow it down,
creating a layered movement between sky and ground.

This changes not only how rain looks,
but how it sounds.

Reflection

Pause here.

The city has its own kind of nature.

Try This

The next time it rains,
look up before you look down.

Notice how weather moves through branches,
not just across pavement.

Best Experienced

• light rain
• beneath old trees
• quiet public squares
• moments when the city feels softened
