The oak stood with the kind of presence that changes the pace around it.

Its branches reached wide,
holding space over the path below.

Spanish moss hung in long, quiet strands,
softening the shape of the tree
and catching the light as it moved.

There was a feeling of age here,
but not heaviness.

Only steadiness.

Southern live oaks are known for their long lives, wide canopies, and deep-rooted presence in the landscape.

Spanish moss is not actually moss,
but an air plant that grows by drawing moisture and nutrients from the air.

Together, they create one of the most recognizable visual relationships in the coastal South.

Some things do not ask to be understood quickly.

They ask only to be stood beside.

The next time you encounter an old tree,
pause before walking on.

Notice its shape, its reach, and the space it creates around you.
